Many drivers choose to lease Mercedes luxury sedans for their comfort, but buyers who get the 2011 CL coupe will get an extra shot of performance in the deal.
Going on sale in November, the car will be packed with a new generation of direct-injection, twin-turbocharged V-8 power. The engine claims better acceleration and fuel economy figures than its predecessor, according to the Automotive News.
Both models have eight cylinders, but the new CL550 will have an engine with 4.6 liters of displacement instead of the 5.5-liter model. Although the new design is smaller, it produces 12 percent more horsepower and gets 10 percent better mileage.
Mercedes believes that extra efficiency will attract more car leasing customers, and plans to use the same design in its S-class sedan and E-class family cars for the 2012 model year.
The company has also developed a 5.5-liter V-8 engine for its high-performance CL63 AMG, replacing that car’s current engine, a non-turbocharged 6.3-liter V-8. They have similar horsepower, but the new version runs with 20 to 30 percent better fuel efficiency thanks largely to an anti-idling feature that automatically switches the engine off when the vehicle brakes to a stop.
Mazda is updating its sporty image with a splash of green. The Japanese automaker has carefully built a reputation for selling quick, nimble cars like the two-seat Miata coupe and the two-door RX-8 sports car, as well the Tribute SUV and CX-9 crossover.
Now the company plans to double the amount of research and development funds it spends on designing hybrids and other environmentally friendly vehicles, Reuters reports. Mazda would increase its proportion of green R&D funds from just above 20 percent in fiscal 2010 to about 40 percent in fiscal 2015.
The firm is launching an effort to catch up to hybrid-happy rivals like Toyota by beginning gas-and-electric vehicle lease sales by 2013. Famous for whispering “zoom zoom” in its U.S. television commercials, Mazda feels an urgent need to broaden its car leasing catalog to deliver better mileage along with snappy performance.
To that end, Mazda will also boost its research on ways to improve energy efficiency for gasoline-powered vehicles. The effort has already begun to pay off with a new engine for compact sport utility
vehicles that delivers 10 percent better fuel efficiency than previous models.
Toyota’s Lexus brand is on track to hold its crown as the top seller of luxury sedans and SUVs in the U.S. market for the 10th consecutive year.
Figures for vehicle lease and sales rates through November show Lexus with a comfortable lead over second place BMW and third place Mercedes-Benz, according to the automakers.
Many Americans have quit their luxury car leasing habits in recent years as the country struggled through an economic recession, but the sinking tide affected the three companies equally.
Car markets have heated up steadily in 2010 thanks to a financial rebound and an increasing number of lease specials offered by competing automakers. Lexus’ grip on the top spot has loosened slightly in this economic turmoil, but Mercedes has ceded the race for 2010.
“I’m pretty sure we’ll be No. 3,” Ernst Lieb, president of Mercedes’ U.S. unit, told reporters this week. “If you go back four years ago, Lexus was 75,000 units ahead of us and BMW was over 40,000 units ahead of us. At the end of the year with Lexus being, I don’t know, 6,000 units ahead of us, and BMW, 1,500, I think that’s a pretty good achievement.”

Despite all of the recalls and bad press Toyota had a few months ago they have pulled through stronger and better than ever. Some recent surveys about car reliability and dependability show that Toyota is still at the top of the list. Toyota as a company has also stepped up and added some major safety features to its line-up of cars for 2011.
Over 1.3 million vehicle owners who are also readers of Consumer Reports voted for which cars they found most reliable. The study covered model years 2001 to 2010. The vehicles that made the list of Most Reliable Cars must also have performed well in government and insurance industry crash and rollover tests. The cars also had to have electronic stability control available in a mainstream high-volume trim line in order to be considered. The results of the reliability study put Toyota cars at the top of the list. Models from Toyota, Scion and Lexus (brands of Toyota) were among the most reliable cars and earned top scores in five different vehicle categories. The Toyota Yaris, FJ Cruiser, Sienna V6 and Tundra V6 all scored top scores in the study. The Lexus LX also earned top marks.
J.D. Power and Associates conducted another similar study to find the dependability of vehicles. They surveyed owners of 3-year old models that were purchased new and asked them to identify problems that had arisen in the last 12 months. The Vehicle Dependability Study asks owners to identify any issues they’ve had in 200 different problem areas. Toyota performed very well in this study and received four different segment awards- more than any other brand in the study. The Toyota Highlander, Prius, Sequoia and Tundra all received above average marks for their dependability. Toyota’s Lexus brand also made the top 5 list. In the compact car category the Toyota Prius was number one followed by the Corolla. In the Large Multi-Activity category the Toyota Sequoia topped the list as did the Tundra in the large pickup category. In the midsize multi activity category Toyota took the top 2 spots with the Highlander and the 4Runner. The Toyota Sienna and Yaris were in the top 3 for the minivan and sub-compact car categories respectively. Lexus made the top 3 in the large premium car category (LS460), midsize premium car (ES 350) and midsize premium multi activity category (GX 470, RX).
The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has their own study that rates a vehicle for how well it protects its occupants from front and side impacts, rollovers and rear impacts. Toyota had more top picks than any other make. The Toyota Avalon, Corolla, Highlander, Sienna and Venza all made the list in each of their respected categories. In the minivan category the Sienna was the only one to make the list.
Standard on all new Toyota vehicles is the Star Safety System. Toyota is the first manufacture to make these features standard on all vehicles. The Star Safety System is made up of five different safety features; vehicle stability control, traction control, an anti-lock braking system, brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution. Vehicle stability control helps prevent slipping and loss of traction by reducing engine power and applying brake force to the wheels that need it. Traction control also helps with slipping on wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces by applying brake force on the spinning wheels. The anti-lock braking system prevents the brakes from locking up by “pulsing” brake pressure to each wheel to help the driver maintain control during emergency braking situations. Brake assist is able to detect sudden or “panic” braking and adds the full pressure needed to help prevent collision. Lastly, electronic brake-force distribution aids in redistributing brake force to help keep the rear wheels from locking up during sudden braking situations. Smart Stop Technology is also being installed in all new Toyota models. This system automatically reduces engine power when both the accelerator and brake pedals are pressed at the same time under certain conditions. The system will intervene when the accelerator is pressed first and the brakes are applied firmly for longer than half a second at speeds greater than five miles per hour.
Toyota cars have made a name for themselves. Despite all of the bad press Toyota Motor Corporation has received their cars are speaking volumes in terms of safety, reliability and dependability.

Have a look at industry forecasts for 2015.
While it’s hard to say with certainty exactly what 2015 has in store, a review of the past year paints a pretty good picture of what’s to come for jobseekers.
If you work in the Admin, Education, IT or Motor industries, hold on to your seats as these industries are booming, according to CareerJunction’s 2014 annual job review. The last year alone (compared to 2013) saw a growth in job openings of:
Over 50% in the Motor industry;
45% in the Education industry;
37% in the IT industry; and
28% in the Admin industry.
The IT industry saw a big upswing all round with salaries rising by a whopping 45%. Software Developers seem to be most sought after, followed by Systems & Network Administrators, Business & System Analysts and Database Administrators.
Mobile job search also seems to be picking up momentum as more and more jobseekers are using this platform to apply for jobs “on the go”. CareerJunction’s mobile site saw an increase in applications of over 400% in the last year alone.
But while many industries saw a rise in demand for workers from 2013 to 2014, some experienced a drop. Job advertising seemed to have slowed down considerably within the following sectors:
Petrochemical (decrease in jobs of 22%).
Marketing (decrease in jobs of 6%).
The 2016 Salary Review by CareerJunction, one of SA’s leading online job boards, shows that Gauteng remains the best paying province. The report explores salary offerings, as offered by companies, for top occupations across SA’s most lucrative provinces – Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
According to the report, if you are looking to earn the big bucks in 2016, the city of gold remains the place to be. This is particularly true for professionals who work within the financial, engineering, admin and sales sectors. The latest findings show large salary gaps between provinces for these industries.
Gauteng remains SA’s best paying province
For example, finance professionals who reside in the Western Cape can expect to earn between 23% and 31% less than their Gauteng counterparts for the same job. Demand for skills across these provinces seems to have a major impact. When looking at differences in job offerings for professionals between these two provinces it becomes clear that Gauteng is in far greater need of finance professionals compared to the Western Cape, where only approximately 17% of recruitment takes place and KwaZulu-Natal with a mere 3%.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for professionals who reside outside of Gauteng. When looking at other industries such as the construction, ICT, design, media and arts and manufacturing sectors, these gaps are not as significant. In most cases, salary gaps range between 5-10%. In fact, Capetonians seem to earn more than their Gauteng counterparts within the warehousing and logistics industry while professionals in KwaZulu-Natal seem to earn more than Capetonians within the engineering sector.
CareerJunction, one of the country’s top job boards, recently partnered with Shaw Academy – the world’s largest online live educator – to assist jobseekers in developing their careers. The agreement enables jobseekers to access affordable, live online learning courses of which the first is provided to them free of charge.

Toyota has already unveiled a prototype of its Pod concept car, which has headlights that fade from bright to dull and change color to indicate happy, sad or angry moods, depending on how the driver inside is feeling. In a joint effort with Stanford University in the U.S and an Edinburgh based company Affective Media, carmaker giant Toyota has made another leap into making a car that can read one’s feelings. Research showed that a driver’s emotional state affected how well they drove: If they were happy, they drove well and if they were sad, they tended to drive worse. “This is the next generation of car, which can detect what mood you are in,” said Affective Media CEO, Christian Jones. Identifying what mood the driver was in by detecting the emotion in their voice was taking things a step further, Jones said. “It’s not as sci-fi as it sounds. We already use our voices for different functions inside the car. It’s about giving appropriate information at the right time.” The in-car voice would talk to you in an attempt to improve the state of your mood. The technology would not act as a counselor to solve complex issues, but it would be more like a “best friend” who could cheer you up at the end of a long day,” added Jones. The technology can let drivers to communicate with each other, in an effort to prevent road rage. The absence of communication between drivers on the road often led to road rage. An alarm is triggered off to rouse the driver whenever it detects the driver is drowsy, quiet and with flat speech Jones believed that “It would give certain information that would help. If they were in a hurry, the car would work out the safer, faster route instead of, perhaps, a scenic route,” Affective Media develops emotion recognition technology, which can be applied to a number of different situations, not only for cars, but also for call centers, the computer gaming industry and mobile phones. As Toyota now ventures into emotion recognition technology in their upcoming cars, Parts Train never stops delivering top of the line Toyota Replacement Parts as part of its commitment to its loyal customers worldwide.
